We head out to the port from your hotel in Puno then the group will take a boat and guide out to the Uros Floating reed Islands to see this unique cultural experience and local way of life. After a historical and geographical explanation by the guide we spend around 1 hour and move on to Amanatani. The trip takes you across an expanse of the lake and you will arrive around 2.5 hours later at the port on Amantani. At this stage your guide will introduce you via the community chief who in turn allocates you a host family to stay with. You then go for lunch. Afternoon activities will be suggested by the guide e.g. a 1 hour hike up to the top of the Island to experience a majestic sunset, but are not mandatory, you may wish just to relax and enjoy peace and quiet of where you will be stationed for the rest of the evening. After dinner, usually you are encouraged by the family to attend the community hall where there will be some entertainment (music and dancing) – again this is a side activity at no extra cost, but not compulsory.
The following morning after breakfast we depart to Taquile Island where we explore on foot with our guide sharing the history and culture of the island. Once we arrive at the other side of the island we enjoy and early lunch before we head to the port to begin our journey back to Puno.
